Tim Sivak, B.Sc., GIT - GIS Analyst/Geoscientist

With several years of experience as a consultant, Tim is a geoscientist-in-training with a Bachelors of Science in Earth Science from Simon Fraser University. Tim is completing his final year of his Master of Geographical Information Systems (M.GIS) degree at Vancouver Island University, and is working out of WWAL’s Victoria office. As part of his graduate work at VIU, he is developing a conceptual surface water and groundwater budget model for Vancouver Island using a distributed spatial approach. Tim is a well-rounded geoscientist with strong geological and GIS background with experience in a variety of different projects throughout Canada, including hydrogeological and environmental assessments, and geotechnical investigations.

Tim has conducted hydrogeological studies for groundwater supply, including source water protection plans, well technical assessments, long term well yield assessments, water budgets, and groundwater feasibility studies. He has also worked on environmental projects, including independent remediation of residential UST sites, Phase 1 ESA’s, and environmental construction management. Tim has also conducted geotechnical investigation and terrain assessment projects for mining, highways, transmission lines, pipeline, and other land development projects. Assignments involved field supervision and project management of drilling, surficial and bedrock geology mapping, deep well installs and testing, soil and water sampling, analysis and reporting.

Tim uses his GIS skills to supplement many of his projects. He has used GIS for stormwater and watershed management plans, hydrogeological assessments, data compilation, spatial analysis, developing high quality figures for reports, and to manage WWAL’s internal collection of environmental data. Tim is familiar with various scripting and programming languages, which he uses for modeling and task automation.

When he isn’t working or studying, Tim enjoys spending time with his family, playing music with friends, looking at rocks and dirt, cycling, swimming and traveling.
