Mike Wei, M.Sc., P.Eng. – Senior Consultant (Hydrogeology)

Western Water Associates is pleased to have Mike Wei as part of our team on selected assignments, based out of our Victoria office. Mike Wei has 35 years of professional experience having spent his career with the BC Ministry of Environment (ENV), from which he retired with distinction in early 2018. Mike is now consulting (Hydro.Geo.Logic) and part of his endeavour includes working with Western Water Associates as a Senior Consultant. As a physical hydrogeologist, Mike has collaborated with a variety of government agencies, regional health authorities, industry, and academia on groundwater resource management projects in British Columbia, Canada.

Mike is the former Head of Aquifer and Watershed Science at ENV and program lead for the Province’s Groundwater Program. Mike has been the provincial government technical expert in developing and implementing groundwater legislation, including the Water Sustainability Act, as well as the Water Sustainability Regulation and Groundwater Protection Regulation. Mike has also taught environmental science and hydrogeology at Royal Roads University and the University of Victoria. In 2017, Mike received the International Association of Hydrogeologists Canadian National Chapter’s Farvolden Award, which is Canada’s highest honour for a groundwater scientist. To date, Mike has assisted WWAL with technical assessments in support of new groundwater licence applications, and a variety of hydrogeological projects located on Vancouver Island, including ongoing detailed studies of the heavily used aquifers in the Mill Bay and Cobble Hill areas.
